Whitman-Hanson Education Foundation
The Whitman-Hanson Education Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), community-based organization committed to enriching the quality of public education in Whitman and Hanson. Since its incorporation in 2004, the WHEF has awarded grants to enhance educational quality throughout the system. These grants provided funding for innovative classroom projects, development of teaching strategies, special programs, new books and materials, improving technology and more.
Funds for the WHEF's programs are generated through community contributions, and all monies raised are used to extend public funding for the schools. All donations, in-kind contributions, and volunteer hours are gratefully accepted.
For 2012-2013 we helped to fund the District's first student delegation to China and the performances for Foreign Language week at WHRHS. Both of these initiatives help to further our goal of supporting the District's initiatives to increase cultural awareness.

On behalf of the Whitman Hanson Education Foundation, we would like to thank everyone who helped to make our January 11th Youth Battle of the Bands event such a success. We had twelve rock bands from all over the South Shore competing to be the first, second and third place winners. The first place winner was Risky Business from Hanover and they received $150 cash and studio recording time at 3D Guitar in Whitman. The second place winner was Push 4171 from New Bedford and they received $50 cash and a Sabian cymbal signed by Andy Zildjian. The third place winner was Long Story Short from Weymouth and they received $50 in ITune cards. In addition to the top three contenders, we had bands from WH, Braintree, Norwell, Duxbury, Dartmouth and Rockland. Many of these bands have played in local and Boston clubs and have participated in other similar competitions and they all rocked the house!! Jon Finn from Berklee College of Music/Jon Finn Group band, Fred Danner of Courtlen Recording Studios and Gerry McMorrow of Scituate Music Center were our judges for this event. Each of them brought years of music industry experience and expertise to their role. We cannot adequately express our thanks for their support of this event and the time they spent with each of the bands providing feedback. John Shea from WATD was our MC and he did an outstanding job keeping things moving!! We would like to extend a thank you to the WHRSD and their staff for their support in bringing this event to fruition. Many other people helped with this event but we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Janet Paru who was a tireless supporter and champion of the cause. She was joined by the Music Boosters and the China Trip parents and children in staffing the event. We also want to thank everyone who attended this event. The proceeds from this event will go towards the WHRSD Music Department and the first WHRHS student trip to China.
